AGRO-2009

The 21th International Exhibition-Fair "AGRO-2009", the Ukraine’s largest and most important trade fair for agriculture, was held from June 11 to 14, 2009, on the territory of the National Exhibition Center of Ukraine “Expocentre of Ukraine” and in the historic village Chubinskoe.

The Exhibition was traditionally opened by the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture Yuriy Melnyk and the President of Ukraine Victor Jushchenko in the National Exhibition Center of Ukraine Expocenter. The additional exposition of "AGRO-2009" in the Exhibition Center Chubynske was opened by the Speaker of Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Litvin, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian policy of Ukraine Yuriy Luzan, and the Honorary President of State Corporation “Ukragroleasing” Vasiliy Shpak.

In the frame of AGRO-2009 were held the 8th specialized exhibition of animal industries and veterinary medicine "Animal'EX", the 6th exhibition of horse breeding and equestrian sport "EquiWorld", the 4th specialized exhibition "Mushroom Industry", the 3rd specialized exhibition for fish farming and fishery "FISHEXPO", and the second specialized exhibition for alternative and renewable energy "Biofuel".
The Special Exposition of New Farming Machinery Manufactured by Companies of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine was organised at the AGRO for the first time.

Over 2,000 companies, associations and research institutes presented the latest innovations, products and technologies in the areas of agricultural machinery, plant production, livestock breeding, and bioenergy. Beside the Ukrainian participation, 233 companies from 24 countries have taken part in "AGRO-2009". At the end of the 4-day fair the exhibitors were unanimous in reporting an extremely high number of promising contacts and successful deals concluded.

The Exhibition attracted almost 500,000 visitors this year.

About 70 conferences, seminars and meetings of agricultural themes were presented by Ukrainian and foreign ministries, committees, embassies, associations and companies during the "AGRO-2009".

The third Ukrainian-German Bioenergetics Forum launched its work in Kiev within the
framework of AGRO-2009. The Forum was organized jointly by Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation and by Institute of Economic Researches and Political Consultation (German-Ukrainian agrarian dialog). Prospects of biogas production in Ukraine, support and legislative initiative, economic attractiveness of biogas products, example of the EU countries and other topical questions are discussed at the forum.

On 12 June the EU-funded project "Implementation of Ukraine's Commitments under WTO and ENP frameworks in the rural sector" held a round table at the Agro 2009 Exhibition and Fair in Kiev. This project aims at assisting close co-operation between the Ukraine and the EU, as well as harmonisation of Ukrainian standards according to WTO requirements. The project was lunched in March 2009 with total budget of EUR 4.7 million.

Farmers and private landowners Association together with Ukrainian Soy Association and Organic Federation of Ukraine held in the frame of AGRO 2009 the seminar on the topic “Current trends of organic agriculture in Ukraine”. The topic itself and organic soy production in particular brought more than 60 participants on the active discussion.

This Exhibition is recognized to be the biggest and most prestigious nation-wide event in agrarian sector of economy of Ukraine.
